Meet McKenzie Mayor — Our Resident CheerLEADER Guiding Growth in the PCU Ambassador Programors

McKenzie Mayer is a dedicated volunteer, mentor, and advocate for Project CheerUP! With 15 years of cheerleading experience across Pop Warner, All-Star, high school, and collegiate cheer at the University of Michigan, McKenzie brings unmatched expertise, passion, and heart to our team.

Cheerleading has shaped McKenzie’s life—building resilience, discipline, and leadership. Now a second-year medical student at Hackensack Meridian Health, pursuing her dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, she uses her personal journey and experiences to uplift and empower others. Her passion for medicine was sparked at age 10 after a stunt injury, inspiring her to help others recover, grow, and stay strong.

At Project CheerUP!, McKenzie will:

  • Guide cheerleaders throughout their Ambassador journey—helping them set goals, complete projects, and execute meaningful service events.
  • Lead the development of our scholarship program, supporting ambassadors as they excel both in cheer and in their future academic and career paths.
  • Inspire and mentor young women in cheerleading and beyond, sharing her story and offering ongoing support grounded in real experience.

We’re grateful to have McKenzie as a key leader in our mission to empower and support the cheer community.🌟

Bringing Hope to Asheville: Project CheerUP! Delivers Relief to Erwin Middle School

In October 2024, Project CheerUP! representatives visited Erwin Middle School in Asheville, NC, to deliver much-needed relief to families affected by Hurricane Helene. The school, home to 550 7th and 8th graders, represents a community deeply impacted by the storm’s devastation. The delivery included goods donated by our generous supporters, bringing a glimmer of hope to a community grappling with emotional, mental, and physical recovery. While stories of loss and exhaustion filled the air, the students and their families were reminded they are not forgotten. The journey to recovery will be long, but Project CheerUP! remains committed to supporting these families throughout the year. Thanks to your unwavering belief in our mission, 100% of your contributions directly helped the people of Asheville, NC. Together, we are lifting spirits and rebuilding lives.

I can’t say enough about how Project CheerUP!  brought smiles to so many faces when they started this project. Project CheerUP! went far and above my expectations. They are a credit to themselves, their organization, and the community.

Project CheerUP! made a huge difference in the pandemic for my Autistic grandson Tyler. In a time of darkness they brought hope, and light. In a time of isolation they helped him feel connected and when he was lost and confused they showed him love! Thank you again for giving him the amazing gift of Project CheerUP!.

It started with an idea. It continues with a smile. They’re making a difference in communities across the county. They’ve certainly have had a positive impact on our long-term care residents. Their ingenuity, compassion, and enthusiasm is infectious. Project CheerUP! has impressed me since Day 1. It is the perfect example of how anyone can turn their ideas and passion into a sustainable program with mutual benefits.

Project CheerUp! Is an inspiring organization teaching young girls and boys leadership skills all while spreading kindness to people in their community. Many surrounding small businesses truly appreciate everything they did to help sustain them during this pandemic. Project Cheer Up!  Is

a true example of what we want our children

to aspire to!
